Cover Story
Negative Capability #1 was the easiest issue to produce in a sense because I didn't feel any pressure to do anything but what I wanted. The thing is, now I have kids old enough to read this and I really don't need them catching hell for shit that I wrote before they were born. In my real life I don't believe in holding grudges but in the zine, getting petty revenge and settling scores is kind of my forte. To make the cover, I went to a public library and went through a huge folder of space pictures from NASA. I found the picture of Earth and then a little later, I found the picture of the satellite. I scanned them and then I put them together in Photoshop, A few months later when I was ready to go to press, I asked this guy I worked with to draw me a laser beam in Illustrator and then I added the fire that I had extracted from a picture of a flamethrower. The whole process took maybe an hour all in. I remember thinking it was a cool image as soon as I saw it and it looked pretty close to what I had in my head. I wanted to visually say the expression, "Setting the World on Fire," and this was what I came up with.
